Alpha Hydroxy Products
You hear the term "alpha hydroxy" everywhere. Do you really know what it is, or what alpha hydroxy products can do for your skin?
Alpha Hydroxy Acid (a/k/a AHA) describes various kinds of fruit acids.
When used correctly and in the proper strength, AHAs are used to help do the following:
- Smooth out the skin
- Even out skin tone, complexion
- Control problem skin (acne, rosacea)
- Increase moisture
- Reverse effects of sun damage
- Promotes faster turnover of new skin cells
- Accelerate effects of other skincare products (with exfoliation, rejuvenation)
Common Types of AHAs
Glycolic
Known for its excellent exfoliation properties, this type of AHA is used mainly to rejuvenate the skin, or expedite the turnover rate of new skin cells, while eliminating old, dead cells. It penetrates easily into the skin and does a great job of controlling problem skin issues such as blackheads and acne. It also helps to smooth the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It's a great moisturizer, helps eliminate skin discoloration, and works well with other skincare products for more intense treatments.

Citric
The source of this AHA is derived from citrus fruit (think vitamin C). This type of AHA is used to rejuvenate the skin. It has excellent antioxidant properties, in addition to stimulating collagen production.
A lightweight cream containing a high concentration of the Patented Complex plus powerful anti-oxidants resveratrol and L-ergothioneine. Regular use will help increase the elasticity and resilience of the skin to greatly reduce the appearance of loose, sagging skin.
Try Cellex-C BetaPlex Smooth Skin Complex
Lactic
As gross as this may sound, the source of this AHA is sour milk! If you have ever tried to soften a tough cut of meat - try soaking it in buttermilk for 2-3 days. It's the same concept.
Try AmLactin Moisturing Body Lotion. This AHA is an excellent skin softener, easily correcting hard, rough skin. It is used as an exfoliant, and helps increase moisture levels in the skin. When used with other skincare products, it accelerates their effectiveness for more dramatic results.
Malic
The source of this AHA is unripened apples and green grapes (green is key!!) Instead of being used for specific skin treatments, this AHA is primarily targeted towards increasing the oxygen supply to muscles. It has been used for treatment of specific disorders such as fibromyalgia.

Tartaric
Again kind of on the odd side, this AHA is derived from a by-product of the fermentation process used when making wine. Using fruit acids as the theme here, and wine certainly qualifies, this type of AHA has been recently showing up in many skincare products. Some benefits of this AHA include reducing oily skin, softening, helps diminish fine lines, controls blemishes and gives the complexion a more smooth, even appearance.
Neova Skin Revealing Treatment is a quick penetrating gel that blends three fruit acids lactic, citric and tartaric to help keep skin blemish-free, it also reduces oiliness and softens fine aging lines.
